Day 49 – Dwarf, KY to Breaks Interstate Park, VA – 83 miles

Lots and lots of elevation gain today – 5900 feet in lots of humidity. We’re now 87% done! Hard to believe we only have 8 more days left!

Today’s highlights included the Hindman Artisan Center and Guitar/strings studio in Hindman.

Hindman has an interesting and dark past. 2 years ago almost to the day a huge flash flood came into this town, killing at least 48 people and devastating almost the entire town, as well as homes and towns in a 4-county area.

The interesting thing about the Artisan Center is that it showcases work from local artists who lost everything in the flood. The guitar studio is where recovering addicts have learned new skills and get through their bad and good days by making gorgeous handmade guitars, banjos, dulcimers.

Entering Virginia – our final state!

Beautiful hillside cemetery with American flags honoring our veterans.
Watch out!

Sorry not many pics – we’ve got no WiFi and poor reception at our hotel tonight.
