Day 23 – Colorado/Wyoming border to Kremmling, CO – 103 miles

Loooong, but fun and varied day. We departed Park City at 06:00 for the 6 hour drive back to where we left off on Thursday and started our ride at 12:30. Thinking we’d “just stop when we were ready “ we had our planned 81 miles for the day PLUS 22 miles we didn’t do over the weekend due to our break. With this late start we never thought we’d do all 103 miles, but we did, arriving at our hotel at dusk to a stunning sunset!

Today was a variety of scenery, from dry and lumpy spillover of the southern Wyoming type to mountains, gorges, burnout areas (big fire in the area in 2020 – The Troublesome Fire – 188,000 acres destroyed) and wildflowers galore.

Leaving the flatland for more mountainous terrain
Cool random rock outcrop. Walt – what IS this???

Some local sites: best outhouse in the West as proclaimed by Mark

Best in the West!
Burnout area from big 2020 fire
Crossing the Continental Divide for about the 6th or 7th time. Losing track…

A word about road courtesy….today’s roads were in poor condition. Lots of dangerous potholes, narrow lanes and in most cases very little or no shoulder. 99% of the drivers were courteous by staying wide and clear and, being Sunday, very little truck traffic. But the most obnoxious driver of the day award goes to Kremmling’s own SHERIFF!! Maybe in too much of a hurry for his donut break, he whizzed past Mark rather too quickly (no, his lights were not on) and came up behind me as I was reaching the top of a rise. Didn’t brake or slow down for the oncoming car and/or me, just blew past with less than 12” between him and me. I’m so glad Mark saw it – he filed a complaint, thank goodness. Shame on that guy!

Pretty wildflowers
Very neat and tidy

  1. so just like Rodney Dangerfield said can’t get no respect. Good you filed a complaint against that their sheriff of plains! And good thing you’re keeping very wide eyed and bushy tailed!!!!😱🤸‍♂️🚴💥👍

Maybe you should write in to Pete Buttigieg (Secretary of Transportation) about the sorry state of the roads.

  3. Gabrielle and Brian

You guys are pretty disciplined, keeping faithfully to that pre-set game plan as much as possible! Luck is accompanying you weatherwise for sure.

I can just imagine what was going through that good old boy Kremmling Sheriff’s mind: “Those d… tourists thinking that they can be riding their … bike through my territory.” 🤠
