Sooooo, south central Wyoming – not much to say about today. If you read yesterday’s blog about “dry and bumpy”, we had A LOT more of the same EXCEPT:
We’ve never ridden past an oil refinery (Sinclair). Ugh.
The shoulders became very poor the last third of the ride, narrow and super busy with trucks. In a word, harrowing.
Lots of antelope crossing and on the side of the road. (Sorry, no pics)
Hopefully tomorrow is more interesting. We are skipping the 13 miles on I80 the route recommends. That’s why we overshot Rawlins today – just wasn’t feeling the good vibes on the notably most dangerous section of I80 in the country. Call us cheaters, but we think we’re smart.
A note about the refinery. There were a bunch of guys staying at our hotel who are working on a 75 day contract to clean 2 of the tanks. Apparently the hotel charges about $500/day/room for the guys – 3 times more than the rack rate! All the hotels in the area do it apparently. Wow. I can assure you, this hotel isn’t worth anywhere near $500/night!
Stay smart! Good for you guys! No way to tackle dangerous in unknown territory but to skip to mallew! Yes! 🙌 not every day is pretty pretty and you’ve had so much. Good job 👏
yes skip it and stay safe. hope you get better views soon!
Glad you skipped the Frogger zone of I-80 and made itback for a a short and fun respite in PC. Good luck in the Midwest–hope your weather holds!
