Day 52 – Wytheville VA to Christianburg VA – 53 miles

We like Virginia! Another very good day. Beautiful scenery, perfect cycling temperature, low humidity.

Still a lot of elevation gain on rolling hills, but well worth the effort for the scenery.

Beautiful views of mountains in the distance

This is typical of the culture of the communities along the Transamerica route. Many communities have no hotels, but cyclist only camping or rooms.
Loved this vista – tree, cemetery, church, road, sky, fence
Churches yesterday, barns today
Cow congregation
The Conery in Draper, one of many tourism related properties owned by the Gardners who have invested heavily in the area. Note the patterns under the counter so the boys’ shop teacher could keep track of the tools in this former high school shop classroom.
Colorful entry in today’s barn collection

Really liked this barn

Just liked the view
Last barn shot of the day
We sat at this corner of the bar in the River and Rail restaurant in Roanoke, one of the best restaurant experiences of the trip – food, decor, service – amazing!

Today was probably the earliest finish to a ride of the entire trip. We were so impressed by the impact story of Hindman Kentucky’s Troublesome Creek String Instrument Company that we contacted the registered dealers in the area and drove to Lexington where a music store had one in stock. The sound is amazing and now I need to start taking proper guitar lessons rather than faking my way through electric bass for the Tequila Shots.
