Our day started off with a bit of anxiety. We drove an hour to a bike shop in Lexington with the hope of arriving right at the opening and getting my bike, Louise, a new wheel. Fortunately, manager John was super helpful, knowledgeable and sympathetic to our timing needs. We had Louise out of surgery within an hour with a new wheel AND a new cassette (and a lighter wallet!). A bit of Jerry-rigging had to be done but she’s back in business. When this trip is over we can order a new wheel that’s appropriate for my bike and have that changed over. She’s fine for now. 😎
So we had a later start but still managed to do our planned 50 mile ride, in spite of 94 degree temps and high humidity again. what another beautiful ride!
Pretty homes and countryside along the way. We’re now in horse country but thankfully didn’t see too many – that means the owners are being mindful of the heat.
Drivers were well behaved, even along the narrow forested lanes
