Day 11 – Florence MT to Wisdom MT – 103 Miles

The Big Picture

Montana is called the “Big Sky” state for good reason. It seems everywhere we went today the mountains were cradled by the sky. Beautiful clouds, deep blue sky. The mountains weren’t in the foreground like Idaho’s but rather put a ring around our whole view.

Let’s bore you with some statistics:

Day 11 miles – 103 – our longest ride yet

Elevation gain: 4529’ – 3,000 over 10 miles.

Total miles to date: 820

Total states visited: 4

Total times we’ve questioned our sanity: 0

Big Sky Montana
Speaks for itself
Lunch! The Brits have discovered Chips Ahoy!

Total number of times I’ve listened to the same music on my air buds: 19 (I really need to download a book or some new tunes)

While cycling today I was thinking about the “Big Picture “. Every day has been a wonderful adventure, they’re all parts of the whole – which is a trip of a lifetime. A chance to see the country in a way we’d normally never get. The opportunity to meet people we’d never otherwise cross paths with. Time to spend with Mark, Ellie and Brad and Sue like we’ve never done before, to have conversations about what we’re seeing, doing, experiencing. That’s our big picture.

Meanwhile, today was a delight once we hit mile 50. The first 50 miles were busy roads, commercial and uninspiring. After that, beautiful scenery and challenging cycling. Big open skies and huge pastures with mountains behind.

Tonight we’re watching “Thelma and Louise” in our AirBnB. Gives Brad and Sue an idea of why our Trailer is called Thelma and my bike Louise.

Interesting marketing approach

Listen to the Emily Henry books-light easygoing rom-coms that don’t require too much brain power!

  2. Again, I’m just in awe of what you have so far accomplished. Not sure if you are getting down towards Glacier National Park. My good friend Mary is a seasonal ranger there and if on duty, you can find her around Avalanche on the West Side. She is tall and on the lean side.
Also, love me some Huckleberry. Still have 3 jars of preserves and 1 syrup. Their pancakes are the best.
    Keep on rolling my friend!

Amazing that you have not questioned your sanity even once! The pro’s of your journey must be outweighing the con’s–by hundreds of miles! Big sis says, “Watch out for those trucks and don’t forget your sunscreen.” Inspired by your tenacity and bravery!
