Team Brown consists of:
· Our amazing support crew, Brad and Sue, two of our British friends coming to see more of America, drive our car and support trailer (affectionately known as Thelma), cook, mend, repair, entertain and be there when we fall down.
· The wonderful folks at U-Haul who have gone above and beyond, accommodating our long-term trailer rental during high season.
· Daughter, Ellie, who is joining us for the first few days of our ride, as well as meeting us for the end.
· Friend Alex Bartholomew who has helped equip us with our bikes and related gear.
· Friends Judy and Bret, who will be joining us on their bikes through Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks, giving psychological aid to the newly posed question “why the hell are we doing this?”
· Friends Brian and Jeannette who are joining us to cycle through probably the most humid and accommodation-challenged part of our route for up to 10 days.
· Friend Sean Cochrane and daughter Ellie for being our tech and design gurus.
· Our Deer Mountain “family” so graciously sending us off on June 20th, hosted by Ellen Silver and Karen Koerselman.
· The Adventure Cycling Association for their detailed route maps.
· Tammy’s medical team for allowing her to do this.
· All of our family and friends who’ve given their support and encouragement despite thinking we are crazy.
Anticipated Challenges:
Historic double-barreled cicada invasion in the Midwest, wildfires, tornadoes, bears (we really hope not), yappy dogs chasing bike wheels, aches and pains.
Why on earth are we doing this, you may ask?
Everyone has a story…..
Cancer – it has affected all of us, directly or indirectly.
Tammy was diagnosed with breast cancer in November 2022. Her parents both died of blood cancers. Mark’s father died of pancreatic cancer. The number of friends we’ve lost to cancer or who are currently suffering is too high to count.
HOW CAN YOU PARTICIPATE?
We’ve chosen to support the American Cancer Society through our ride. If you choose to donate in celebration of our stories and yours, and the impact the ACS has already had, you’ll be helping to fund further progress against this horrible disease.
